What is a DC Fan?
A DC fan is a common electronic device used to create a pleasant current of air or any other gas. DC Fans are powered with a potential of fixed value such as the voltage of a battery. They are one of the basic electronic appliances & are abundantly used in every walk of life. So, in this article, we are going to build a Mini DC Fan Using 4V Lead-acid Battery.
The heart of this circuit is a 4V DC toy motor. They are very rugged, easy to use, and controlled with a wide range of voltage levels. These motors can rotate in either direction with variable speed control options, however, they do not offer high speeds and torque. The good news is that this motor is relatively cheap as compared to other motors.
Hardware Components
The following components are required to make Rechargeable DC Fan
S.No | Component | Value | Qty |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Toy DC Motor | 4.5V/9000rpm | 1 |
2. | Lead Acid Battery | 4V/ 0.5Ah – 1Ah | 1 |
3. | Toggle Switch | – | 1 |
4. | Plastic Fan blades | – | 1 |
5. | Hot Glue Gun | – | 1 |
6. | Soldering Iron | 45W – 60W | 1 |
7. | Soldering wires with flux | – | 1 |
8. | DC power jack | Female | 1 |
9. | DC battery charger | 5V/500mA | 1 |
10. | AC wall outlet | 220V | 1 |
11. | Jumper wires | – | As per need |
Useful Steps
Following are the steps on ‘How To Make A Mini DC Fan.’
1) Hot glue the DC motor & the toggle switch onto the insulated surface of the battery.
2) Solder the -ve terminal of the battery to the -ve terminal of the DC motor & the positive terminal to the +ve of the toggle switch.
3) solder the +ve terminal of the dc motor to the +ve terminal of the toggle switch.
4) Solder the -ve & +ve terminals of the DC charging jack to the -ve & +ve terminal of the battery.
5) Attach a plastic fan blade to the shaft of the DC motor & test the circuit.
Working Explanation
The working of this circuit is actually pretty simple. On switching on the power, the DC toy motor rotor coil energizes & rotates the motor shaft at a high rpm, with respect to the input signal polarity. You can use a 5V 500mA battery charger to charge the battery
Applications
- It can be used in case of a power outage.
- It can function as a portable DC fan
