LM392 is a Low Power Voltage Comparator & an operational amplifier LM392 IC consists of 2 independent building block circuits. One is a high gain, internally frequency compensated operational amplifier, and the other is a precision voltage comparator. Both the operational amplifier and the voltage comparator have been specifically designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages.

Operational Amplifier

Operational Amplifiers are basically voltage amplifying devices designed to be used with components like capacitors and resistors. They serve as the core part of any analog device. Feedback components like capacitors and resistors are used to determine the operation of the amplifier. The amplifier can perform many different operations (resistive, capacitive, or both), giving it the name Operational Amplifier. Op-amps are linear devices that are ideal for DC amplification and are used often in signal conditioning, filtering or other mathematical operations.

Voltage Comparator

A voltage comparator is a simple electronic configuration, that compares two voltages at two different levels, and then switches the output to wither LOW or HIGH state with respect to a voltage that is at a higher level then the other. In other words, a voltage comparator compares the magnitude of two voltage inputs and determines which is the largest of the two. There are two main types of voltage comparators:

  1. Non inverting Comparators
  2. Inverting Comparators
