Two-Way Light Switch Connection

Introduction

In this tutorial, we are going to make a “Two-way Light Switch Connection.” Switches are widespread; we use them everywhere, from homes and businesses to automobiles and factories. A switch may either open or close an electrical circuit.

There are several varieties of switches, such as the toggle switch, the digital switch, etc. All switches have a single, straightforward function: either to cut off or divert electrical current. They are the deciding factor in whether the circuit works or not.

The on/off switches, dimmer switches, and fan speed controls we use daily are all examples of two terminal devices. On the other hand, a specialized button known as a “Two Way Switch” is a crucial part of any stair lighting system.

Working Explanation

Two two-way switches are required to make this circuit; one switch’s common terminal is wired to the phase line, while the second switch’s common terminal is wired to the lamp load. Each switch’s way terminals are wired together and the neutral wire is linked directly to the load.

These two-way switches are usually used in staircase applications. When we turn the switch ON or OFF at either end of the staircase, the light current state changes to the opposite state; for example, if the light is in the ON condition, it becomes the OFF condition, and if the light is in the OFF condition, it becomes the ON condition.

Application and Uses

  • Staircase lighting system
  • To operate appliances from two different places.
