Touch Lamp Circuit using NE555 Timer

A touch lamp is a lamp that can be turned on and off by just touching a particular section of light. The electronic switch, which switches on and off the display, is inside the bulb, not outside. This electrical connection is attached to a wire linked to the inside of the lamp’s outer layer. The circuit enables and disables two 1-watt LEDs by touching both the on and off connections.

Working Explanation

The circuit is built around a timer IC 555. A transistor 2N6122 acts as a switch. For driving the circuit, a 110 or 230 primary to 9 Volts secondary 1A step-down transformer is used. You can connect 3 or 4 more 1-watt LEDs in parallel with a 27-ohms resistor for each LED, but you should also use a higher current voltage transformer like 2 or 3 amperes with a 5-ampere bridge. The circuit can also be powered with a 12-volt battery as shown in figure 2.

Applications and Uses

  • This circuit can be used for a number of uses, such as an LED table, a reading lamp, and an LED lamp.
  • It is also used for touch-activated portable emergency lights (If directly attached to a 12-volt battery without a transformer ) and many other applications as well.
