Introduction

Sometimes you may have observed that your heavy electronic devices suddenly stop working. There could be so many reasons for the device not working properly. One of the major reasons is the internal short circuit of the device. If the device makers do not use short circuit protection it may damage the machine. It is also dangerous for the environment. That’s why it is recommended to make short circuit protection for electronic devices to protect the excessive current. So in this tutorial, we are going to make a “Short Circuit Protection Circuit”

Working Explanation

In this Short Circuit Protection Circuit, both the transistor are working as switches. When you apply the power supply, in normal conditions transistor Q2 remains ON while Q2 remains OFF. Since the output is taken at the collector side and here the green LED is wired at the collector of Q1, therefore green LED turns ON. When there is a short circuit happens, transistor Q1 will turn ON and therefore buzzer beeps and the red LED glows. In other words, you can say that, when there is no short circuit, the green LED remains ON. When the short circuit happens buzzer starts to make noise and the red LED starts glowing. Hence this alerts the user.

Application and Uses

  • The circuit is used in various electronic devices to protect the devices from any damage.
  • It can be used in circuit breakers of home automation.
