MQ5 Gas Sensor belongs to the category of those sensors which interact with the atmosphere. It is a small size, easy to interface, long life and highly stable sensor which can detect different kinds of gases like H2, LPG, CH4, CO, LNG, iso-butane, Town gas, Alcohol, and Smoke. As it can detect different gases, therefore, we need to adjust its sensitivity for the specific gas which we want to detect with the help of an integrated potentiometer. For H2 and LPG of concentration 1000 ppm in the air, we need to set its potentiometer value to 20 KΩ.
For the ease of the user, this sensor has dual output i.e. both analog output and digital output. The response of this sensor is very fast so that the system can generate the alarm as soon as the leakage occurs or the required gas detected, so that the surroundings or the persons working, can avoid big damage.
