With the rising number of mosquito-borne illnesses like malaria or dengue, control of mosquitoes is something of utmost importance in the present day. Therefore, special products are required like mosquito repellent to combat mosquitoes.

This project presents the design of an electronic mosquito repellent. The project is aimed at developing a device that is capable of emitting ultrasonic energy of varied frequencies. These frequencies do affect the auditory senses of pests such as mosquitoes, rodents, and avian and nocturnal insects by making them uncomfortable in their abode. However, these frequencies do not affect the hearing ability of humans. This simple electronic mosquito repellent is based on two transistors. These two transistors are connected such that to create a multivibrator that oscillates to produce ultrasonic frequency. A combination of resistors and nonpolar capacitors of particular values is used to adjust the generated frequency.

Mosquito Repellent Circuit

Working Explanation

The working of the circuit is simple and can easily be made using a few components. The circuit uses 1.5V to 3V DC as operating voltage. This electronic mosquito repellent circuit is actually a multivibrator that oscillates and generates a high-frequency sound that is not audible to humans. Two NPN 2N3904 transistors are used along with the resistors and capacitors. The sound frequency depends on the two 100K resistors and capacitors used in the circuit. A piezo element is used at the output of the circuit to generate these high-frequency sounds.

Applications and Uses:

Some of the mosquito repellents available on the market use a toxic liquid to generate poisonous vapors which is dangerous to human health. This simple electronic circuit generates some output frequencies which repels mosquitoes. It can also be used for other pests such as rodents, avians, and nocturnal insects by adjusting its frequency. It is a simple, harmless, and easily portable circuit that can be placed anywhere in the room.
