A Melody Generator is a common electronic circuit that acts as a melody-producing tool in various devices such as toys, appliances & instruments. It is a part of almost every digitilized musical equipment & holds great importance in the production & recording of music in the entertainment industry. So, In this project, we are going to build a Melody generator circuit Using UM66 IC With TDA2822M Audio Amplifier.
The UM66 is an easy-to-use 3-terminal Melody generator IC. It is mainly used in circuits where a tone has to be played as a notification for the user. This IC is easy to use because it can work on low voltage (0.3V to 3.5V) and consumes very little current (1uA) during operation. There are up to 14 versions of this IC, each version contains a different song melody programmed by the manufacturer. Each IC comes with the code number of the song mentioned on it as part number

Melody Generator Circuit
Working Explanation
The operation of this circuit can be broken down into two sections. The first part consists of a UM66 melody IC while the second part consists of a TDA2822M Amplifier IC. On connecting the power of the UM66 IC, the IC begins to generate an output signal. Now if this signal is taken directly to a loudspeaker, the output audio will be very noisy & distorted.
Therefore, the output signal of the UM66 IC is fed to the TDA2822M amplifier IC. The amplifier amplifies the melody of the UM66 and directs it towards an 8 Ohm Loudspeaker, to produce a crisp & audible melody. The output audio of the melody can be adjusted with the help of a 10K variable resistor.
Applications
- Commonly used in calling bell, phone, toys, in the musical bell of doors, home security alarm systems, burglar alarms, etc.
- Also, It is widely used in Doorbells, Alarm systems, Reverse horns, Toys, Clocks, Timers, etc.
