Low Noise Microphone Preamplifier Circuit Using NE5534 IC

In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to make a low-noise mic preamp using the NE5534 IC. A microphone preamplifier is a circuit that amplifies weak audio signals in advance. When the microphone or any other audio source has a really low sound level a preamplifier circuit amplifies those small and weak signals and then sends them for further amplification.

This circuit can be made using a transistor but we are using IC because it will give a much better distortion filter. This IC has high unity gain, low noise, low harmonic distortion, and low consumption of power with short circuit protection. This IC is ideal for this project along with other low-noise ICs such as TL082 or TL071.

The specifications for a mic preamp may vary according to the mic used to capture the audio signals and the kind of sound being recorded. Gain, noise, and distortion are the crucial specifications to be considered in a preamp circuit.

Low Noise Microphone Preamplifier Circuit

Working Explanation

This circuit can be operated by a 9-12V battery. Audio signals are received from Electret Mic and are sent to the ICs input. You can connect any audio source in the place of a microphone. The overall voltage gain of this circuit depends on the Resistors used at the non-inverting input of this IC. The output signal generated from the IC is passed through another capacitor to filter out any noise.

Applications and Uses

This circuit can be used where low noise and good quality audio preamplifier are required. Some of its applications are

  • Cellphones
  • Soundcards used in Laptops
  • Recording Audio applications
  • Live Music
