In this circuit DIY tutorial, we are going to demonstrate a short and easy project of a “Short circuit protector”. You may know, that the “Short circuit” usually occurs when the current flow inside the circuit is higher than the projected current exist. Additionally, this prompts unnecessary heat and the risk of fire. It can likewise damage the equipment and cause some potential injury to the workers.

Moreover, why the proper circuit protection is necessary. The correct methodologies can help to protect the workers who are dealing with the circuit operation, and likewise, protect the hardware from damage. However, this instructional project on “Short circuit protection” can greatly help in the protection against extreme current flows. When an excessive current is detected, the device trips and breaks the circuit.

Useful Steps

Step# 01

In our first step, we have to solder the buzzer on the relay. Be sure that, the positive terminal is connected to the NO (Normally Open) pin. However, the negative terminal is connected to the relay coil pin.

Step# 02

Then in the next step, we have to connect this circuit to the power supply. For this, we have to make the cut between the negative wire of the supply and connect the relay coil pins in series with the power supply. Also, you have to connect the relay common pin and coil pin.

Now, your circuit is ready to test.

Circuit Operation

In this section, we will discuss the operation of the protector circuit. For making this circuit we have used a few components.
When a short circuit occurs, the results in excessive current flow in the power source and may even cause the power source to be destroyed. So, we have made a short circuit protector.
This circuit will prevent the short circuit and protect the power supply from damage. By connecting the power supply with the circuit, you can see the LED light of the power supply is not blinking even with the short circuit which means our power source is completely protected now.

Applications and Uses

This particular short circuit protector is used to protect the power supply but these circuits are also used in various electronic devices where excessive current causes damage.
