Wondered how to save energy by using a passive energy device? Look no further as this tutorial has got you covered!. The requirements for the project are very simple and can be found in any electrical utility shop. Let us get started!

Hardware Components

The following components are required to make Energy Saving Device

Sr. NoComponentValueQty
1.Plug (Any Type)1
2.Stranded Copper Wire1.5mm Core
3.Capacitor440V 15uF1
4.Cylindrical Container 5 x 13 cm1
5.Soldering Iron1
6.Soldering Wire1

Procedure

  1. The first step is to open the plug that has been procured:
  1. Now that the plug is open, connect to wires to each of the live and neutral terminals as so and close the plug:
  1. Take a cylindrical container that is bigger than the size of the capacitor and able to fit in it and make a hole using soldering iron in the cap:
  1. Now put the wires through the cap and solder the capacitor onto the wires:
  1. Close the Capacitor inside the container, plug it in and turn on the switch:

And voila, you are done!

Working Principle:

This is a simple principle from the power triangle which constitutes of the:

  1. Apparent Power
  2. True Power
  3. Reactive Power

By connecting the capacitor to the wall outlet we have decreased the reactive power that is introduced due to inductance (e.g. Fans and Motors in our house). The capacitor reducing the Reactive Power thus causes the Apparent Power to decrease and thus saving electricity passively.

The module requires no further checkups ever and just needs to be connected once, working till the life of the capacitor (which is indeed pretty long).
