Usually, we have seen that LEDs are used at the output of the DC circuits. Hence, that kind of circuit requires DC battery power, But, what if we need to work on AC circuits? At that time one requires to use an AC power supply.
In simpler words, it means, that LED would be driven by alternating current power. Thus, it’s not much difficult to create that circuit. But why do we need that? What is the purpose of this when already DC supply is available? The simple answer is that DC drives experience losses over a distance, and require regulators which wastes a lot of power. On the other hand, the performance of AC is better over a distance. So, this article is about how to connect Led light to 220 AC.
Hardware Components
The following components are required to make 220V AC LED Circuit

Working Explanation
To make the circuit, connect the anode of the diode to the negative pin of an LED, it allows the current to flow in one direction like the one-way valve. So, during the positive cycle currents flows through the diodes, and during the negative cycle, no current flows through it. In other words, the diode enables to give only the positive cycle. The resistor that is wired in the circuit resists the current, protects the device, and drops out the voltage. The capacitor that is attached between the diode and the resistor is utilized to provide a smooth output voltage. As a result, this smooth voltage drives the Led light.
Applications
- The circuit can be used in the home lighting system.
- It can also be utilized in the indicator circuits that use AC power.
- In homes, it can be connected with the doorbells, etc
- Or for any AC circuits that require indication.
