Introduction

Dc machines are widely used in various commercial and industrial sectors and so are Dc motors. And, in many places, the accurate speed of these machines is necessarily required. As you know that every industry uses mechanical machines where energy interchange or transform into another. For example, the electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical. Hence, the speed of the motor may get varied with the number of tasks performed and that’s why it is important to control the speed. So, in this tutorial, we are going to make “DC motor speed control using LM3578”

Working Explanation

In this DC motor speed control using LM3578, 3 pins that are pins 6, 7, and 8 are first to get shirted together and connected to the input supply. Capacitors C1 and c2 are connected between pins 1 and 3 with the resistor. Pin 2 is wired with the potentiometer with the help of a 120K resistor. The output is taken at pin 5 of an IC which is then connected with the base of MOSFET. The collector is connected to the motor and the positive end is taken supply from the input. The motor speed is adjusted by adjusting or changing the potentiometer. A diode is there in the circuit for protection from back emf.

Application and Uses

  • It can be used in conveyors.
  • With some modification, the circuit can be used in industrial purpose applications like rolling mills, and steel mills to control the speed of motors used in various machines.
  • Also, in rotating machines, etc.
