CD4063 is a 4-bit magnitude comparator belonging to the CD4000 IC series, designed for use in computer and logic applications that require the comparison of two 4-bit words. This logic circuit determines whether one 4-bit word (Binary or BCD) is “less than”, “equal to”, or “greater than” a second 4-bit word. The CD4063BMS has eight comparing inputs (A3, B3, through A0, B0), three outputs (A < B, A = B, A > B) and three cascading inputs (A < B, A = B, A > B) that permit systems designers to expand the comparator function to 8, 12, 16 . . . 4N bits. The IC always comes in a 16-pin hermetically sealed dual in line package. CD4063 offers features such as high noise immunity, thermal overload protection and wide range of workable voltages. The IC is easily interfaceable with TTL, CMOS, and NMOS, making it very reliable to be used in small to medium scale DIY projects.
Magnitude Comparator
A 4-bit magnitude comparator compares two binary numbers each of four bits. It consists of eight inputs each for two four bit numbers and three outputs to generate less than, equal to and greater than between two binary numbers.
