CD4033 Decade Counter

CD4033 belongs to the CD4XXX IC series. CD4033 consists of a 5 stage Johnson decade counter and an output decoder which converts the Johnson code to a 7 segment decoded output for driving one stage in a numerical display. A high RESET signal clears the decade counter to its zero counts. The counter is advanced one count at the positive clock signal transition if the CLOCK INHIBIT signal is low. Counter advancement via the clock line is inhibited when the CLOCK INHIBIT signal is high. The CLOCK INHIBIT signal can be used as a negative-edge clock if the clock line is held high. The IC always comes in a 16-pin hermetically sealed dual in line IC package (DIP).

What is a Decade Counter?

A decade/BCD counter is a serial digital counter which can count up to 10 decimal digits. It goes through 10 unique combinations of output & RESETS for every new clock input. A BCD counter can count 0000, 0001, 0010, 1000, 1001, 1010, 1011, 1110, 1111, 0000, and 0001 and so on.
