The CD40110 is a CMOS Decade Up-down Counter/Latch/Display Driver with a special preconditioning circuit that allows the counter to be clocked, via positive going inputs, up or down regardless of the state or timing of the other clock line. The clock signal is fed into the control logic and Johnson counter after it is preconditioned. The output of the IC always comes in TTL which makes it easy to work with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. CD40110 is an integral part of the CD4000 series as it is used in various counting & timing applications throughout the industry. This line of IC series a wide array of features such as ESD protection & thermal overload protection and also has integral importance in DLD design and logic switching applications.

Up/Down Decade Counter

A BCD/Binary Counter is a serial digital counter that counts ten digits. it resets for every new clock input. As it can go through 10 unique combinations of output, it is also called as “Decade counter”. A decade counter can count 0000, 0001, 0010, 1000, 1001, 1010, 1011, 1110, 1111, 0000, and 0001 and so on. A 4 bit binary counter will act as a decade counter by skipping any six outputs out of the 16 (24) outputs.
