Automatic Battery Charging Timer Circuit
Working Explanation
The circuit is divided into two phases. The first stage is a monitoring circuit for battery voltage that will control the battery and start the timer on a preset voltage. With the aid of the 10 K variable resistor, the preset voltage can be picked. The second stage is a timer circuit, designed around a timer IC of 555. For example, change the input DC power supply to 9 V DC or use a 9 V transformer instead of 12V for charging low-voltage batteries, and change the Zener diode to 2,4 or 2,5 volts. Depending on the type of battery the transformer output ampere would be. Slow charging also works well for battery life, Therefore it is easier to charge a 10 AH battery in 5 or 10 hours with a 1 or 2-ampere transformer. But the circuit uses a battery control circuit, which does not let the battery discharge fully until the 10 K variable resistor has been modified.
Application and Uses
