Audio Amplifier Circuit Using TDA2040 IC

TDA2040 is the audio amplifier that works in the class AB amplifier mode. Class AB amplifier belongs to the family of power amplifiers, used to reduce distortions. Practically, it is the combination of the class A and B amplifiers. It has greater power efficiency that provides good sound. Therefore in this article, we will discuss how to make an audio amplifier circuit using the TDA2040 IC.

To make this circuit, make sure to use a good-quality board. Since IC dissipates the heat, therefore must use the heat sinks in the circuit. Remember that all the electrolytic capacitors must have a rating of 15V. Also, We have used only one channel. However, if you want to make an amplifier for stereo applications, you can make another identical copy for that purpose.

Working Principle

This circuit of the audio amplifier using TDA2040 has an input decoupling capacitor C7. Resistor R4 is providing feedback between pins 4 and 2. Resistor R5 and capacitor C5 are making the network for high-frequency stability, connected with pin 4. Capacitors C1 and C2 are used as the power supply capacitor. Capacitor C6 is the coupling capacitor for the output that drives the load.

Application and Uses

  • Since it works as a class AB amplifier, therefore can be used in FM radios and transistor radios.
  • Also, to reduce the signal distortion.
  • Electric keyboards, guitars, other instruments, etc.
