Gyroscope Sensor Module MPU6050

The Gyroscope Sensor MPU6050 measures rotational velocity or rate of change of the angular position over time, along the X, Y, and Z-axis. This sensor consists of an internal vibrating element made up of crystal material in the shape of a double T- structure. The structure comprises a stationary part in the center with ‘Drive Arm’ on both sides and the ‘Sensing Arm’ attached to it.

The Gyroscope sensors are also called as Angular Velocity Sensors or Angular Rate Sensor. Besides sensing the angular velocity these sensors can also measure the motion of the object. For more robust and accurate motion sensing, the gyroscope sensor is combined with accelerometer sensors in most electronic items. These sensors can also be divided into large or small-sized depending on their size. From small to large the hierarchy of gyroscope sensor can be listed as a vibration gyroscope, fluid gyroscope, fiber-optic gyroscope, and ring laser gyroscope.

MPU6050 (Gyroscope + Accelerometer)

The MPU 6050 is a sensor module based on MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) technology. In this module, both the gyroscope and accelerometer are embedded inside a single chip. This chip uses the I2C (inter-integrated circuit) protocol for communication with external magnetometers or other sensors. The MPU6050 IMU is also called a six-axis motion tracking device or 6 DoF (six Degrees of Freedom) device because it has 6 outputs, 3 accelerometer outputs, and 3 gyroscope outputs

This module is very accurate for converting analog values to digital because it has a 16-bit analog to digital converter hardware for each channel. It also has an additional feature of on-chip Temperature Sensor.
