Introduction
In this tutorial, we are going to make a “TDA2020 HI-FI Power Amplifier“, 20W to 80W. This IC has the unique capability of operating on a dual power source. This removes the requirement for an output coupling capacitor, which is both costly and big. Furthermore, the low-frequency response is increased, and power consumption is reduced since a lower-voltage filter capacitor may be used.
When using a dual supply, however, care should be taken to guarantee that the supply rails always turn on and off concurrently, even when there is a malfunction.

Working Explanation
In this TDA2020 OCL HI-FI Power Amplifier, we use the 18V 2A Dual Power Supply, and 4 ohms for the speaker. It gives the output power of 20 watts RMS. The TDA2020 Bridge amplifier circuit at 30 watts at 8 or 4 ohms needs more than double the current power supply. However, the voltage is the same. If you want more power, you need to follow the circuit diagram below.
Here, we can utilize a pair of NPN-PNP power transistors to make the sound louder. It is an excellent idea to use a transistor boost increase current. It is simple and convenient. This circuit has a gain of 50 to 80 dB.
Application Uses
- For low-frequency class B power amplifier circuits.
- Dual supply amplifier circuits.
