74LS159 is a member of the 74XXYY family of TTL ICs. This decoder utilizes TTL circuitry to decode four binary-coded inputs into one of sixteen mutually exclusive outputs when both the strobe inputs, G1 and G2, are low. The demultiplexing function is performed by using the 4 input lines to address the output line, passing data from one of the strobe inputs with the other strobe input low. The design concentrates for the chip to be used in high-performance memory-decoding or data-routing applications, requiring very short propagation delay times. The output of the IC always comes in TTL which makes it easy to work with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. The IC 74LS159 is smaller in size and it has a much faster speed which makes it reliable in every kind of device.
