In this tutorial, we are going to make a “6283 Audio Amplifier Circuit”. An audio power amplifier is an electronic device that amplifies low-power electronic audio signals. Such as the signal from a radio receiver or an electric guitar pickup, to a level that is high enough for driving loudspeakers or headphones. It is the final electronic stage in a typical audio playback chain before the signal is sent to the loudspeakers. Here we design a low-power stereo audio amplifier circuit with a single monolithic IC 6283. It is an audio power IC with built-in two channels, developed for portable audio devices.

This IC comes in SIP (Single Inline Package). It can give 2.5W output for 9-volt Vcc, and 4.6W output for 12 Vcc. This IC has built-in features like thermal shutdown protection and is capable of operating with 6V to 15V power supply. There is no need for an audio pre-amplifier at input because it provides 30KΩ input resistance. This amplifier is capable to run easily up to 4-inch woofers. Normally oval 2.5 speaker woofers are run by this IC.

This IC contains only 12 pins all arranged in a single inline package. Due to its internal circuit design, a minimum number of external components is enough to form a stereo amplifier.

Working Explanation

As the circuit is based on a 6283 IC, this IC is a single in-line package best for 9-12 v supply operation (low power best quality audio player). Here at the input two 1μF capacitors C11 and C12 are used as audio coupling capacitors, and two 8Ω speakers are used at the output. Further, pin 5 acts as the audio input pin for channel 1, and pin 2 acts as the audio output pin. For Channel 2 pin 7 acts as the audio input, and pin 10 acts as the audio output pin. This circuit is designed as a stereo power amplifier and is biased with 12V Vcc. Here R1 and R2 resistors are used to compensate for the voltage gain according to needs. This circuit is designed to give a 45dB Voltage gain. Refer to Datasheet for voltage gain calculation.

Applications

Audio power amplifiers are found in all manner of sound systems including sound reinforcement, public address, home audio systems, and musical instrument amplifiers like guitar amplifiers.

This amplifier can be used in various devices like DVD Players, FM receivers, PC speakers, etc.
